Patna: Amid all the troubles griping the family of incarcerated Lalu Prasad, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president, finally comes the good news.

Prasad’s eldest son Tej Pratap Yadav is now scheduled to tie the nuptial knot with Aishwarya Rai, granddaughter of former Bihar chief minister Daroga Prasad Rai who ruled the state for 10 months in 1970. This comes barely a fortnight after India’s top court threw out a petition seeking to register a murder case against Tej Pratap, a RJD lawmaker who served as the health minister in the previous Grand Alliance government.

A close aide of the family told media on Friday that the ring ceremony would take place later this month while the wedding would be solemnised on May 12 at a city hotel. There was no official confirmation if Prasad would attend the wedding of his son, but family sources said they would move a petition to the court, requesting he be allowed to attend the wedding. The RJD president who is serving a prison term, has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi after severe health complications.

As per reports, Aishwarya, daughter of former cabinet minister Chandrika Rai, is a MBA graduate while Tej Pratap has only completed his Grade 12 and is known to be quite religious. He is an ardent follower of the Krishna deity and has been frequently visiting Mathura and Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh to offer prayers.

Aishwarya hails from Chapra town in Saran district which remained the home Lok Sabha constituency of the RJD president for long until he was disqualified from contesting polls after his conviction in the multimillion dollar fodder scam in 2013 for the first time.

During the celebration to mark the birthday of her husband last year, Rabri Devi had outlined the kind of daughter-in-law she was looking for. “I don’t want cinema-hall and mall-going girls. She should be one who can look after the house, respect elders and manage outside work just like me,” she told the media. Aishwarya, as per media reports, didn’t work anywhere despite receiving many job offers, including one from the World Bank.

Tej Pratap said it was good to see that his parents are happy with the marriage. “I respect the decision of the family. Their happiness is my happiness,” he told the media on Friday, shortly before leaving for Delhi to meet his father and seek his blessings.
