Dubai: Dozens of American expatriates in the UAE watching the US election flocked to the US Election Breakfast hosted by the American Business Council on Wednesday.

About 70 expats were glued to big screen as CNN reported that Donald Trump has collected one million more votes nationally than Hillary Clinton as gaps narrowed in the nailbiting finish in swing states.

They expressed surprise at the outcome of the race, with Trump increasing his lead in the hotly contested presidential election.

They said that it appeared that US voters in rural areas and rust belt are favouring jobs in America over trade as a top priority.
