Nairobi: A Kenyan court on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Sudan's President Omar Al Bashir, wanted by the International Criminal Court on genocide charges, following a request by the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ).

Though Kenya has ratified the founding treaty of the IPC, it failed to arrest the Sudanese leader when he visited the country in August.

The ruling means that his arrest "should be effected by the Attorney General and the Minister for Internal Security should he ever set foot in Kenya," Judge Nicolas Ombija said.
