Aleppo International Airport, Syria's second-largest airport, has officially reopened for air traffic after being closed for nearly three months. The first passenger flight from Damascus touched down at the airport on Tuesday, marking a significant step towards restoring normalcy in the war-torn region.

The reopening ceremony was attended by representatives of Syria's new interim government, as reported by the state-run SANA news agency. The airport had been shut down in November following an offensive by rebel groups against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad in early December.

In the months since the closure, Syrian authorities have carried out extensive maintenance and restoration work to ensure the airport could safely resume operations. The reopening of Aleppo International Airport is a key development for Aleppo, Syria's second-largest city and a vital industrial and commercial hub. It is expected to boost trade and provide a crucial link to the town and the rest of Syria and beyond.
