The iconic mosque tops Middle East rankings, enters global top 10 list
Abu Dhabi: The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (SZGM) in Abu Dhabi has been recognised once again on the world stage, climbing two spots to rank eighth globally among 25 distinguished landmarks on TripAdvisor’s 2025 global report.
The iconic mosque also retained its title as the number one cultural landmark in the Middle East, according to the platform’s latest annual report.
The mosque’s improved ranking comes as part of TripAdvisor’s “Top Attractions” category, which evaluated over eight million landmarks based on traveller reviews and ratings.
Securing a position within the top one per cent of attractions worldwide, SZGM has cemented its place as a symbol of the UAE’s cultural and architectural excellence, and as a central hub for global cultural tourism.
Its distinctive white domes, reflective pools, and intricate Islamic artistry have attracted millions of visitors each year, earning it praise not only for its visual splendour but also for its atmosphere of serenity, inclusivity, and spiritual significance.
In a parallel success story, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Fujairah has also achieved international recognition. It was ranked within the top 10 per cent of global landmarks, despite only recently launching its full visitor services.
The milestone highlights the mosque’s growing appeal among international tourists and its emergence as a new cultural destination on the UAE tourism map.
Together, the two mosques symbolise the expanding influence of Emirati cultural institutions on the global stage.
Commenting on the achievement, Dr Yousif Al Obaidli, Director General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, attributed the recognition to the UAE’s visionary leadership and the centre’s long-term strategy to enhance visitor experiences.
“This global recognition reflects our commitment to excellence. It is the result of sustained efforts to improve infrastructure, train skilled Emirati cultural tour guides, and deliver exceptional experiences that embody the mosque’s civilisational message,” he said.
Dr Al Obaidli added that the centre is looking ahead with future strategies aimed at enriching visitor engagement through cultural programmes, exhibitions, and interactive initiatives that reflect the mosque’s universal message of peace and tolerance.
Beyond its religious significance, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has become a symbol of coexistence and cross-cultural dialogue.
With over seven million visitors annually, it serves as a place where people from diverse backgrounds come together in a shared appreciation for Islamic heritage, art, and architecture.
The mosque continues to revive and celebrate the values of Islamic civilisation while building bridges of understanding across cultures — offering not only a place of worship but also a sanctuary for reflection, education, and peace.
