In a groundbreaking pilot test on Monday, a team of delivery robots successfully used the Metro system to transport goods to shops located within Wanxia Station on Shenzhen Metro Line 2, China Daily reported.

The trial marks a significant step toward streamlining underground commercial logistics.

Traditionally, deliveries to metro shops rely on human workers hauling goods from trucks parked above ground — an approach often slowed by limited parking and morning traffic congestion.

These new robots, equipped with AI-powered dispatch systems, panoramic lidar, and advanced chassis designs, navigate the metro during off-peak hours. The goal is to reduce delivery costs and improve efficiency for shop owners.

Officials see the project as a scalable solution for urban last-mile logistics.
