This is, according to OPPO, the smartphone of champions. A limited-edition R7 Plus with more FC Barcelona stuffed into the thing than a shisha café in the heart of Karama during the El Clásico (the Clásico is the name given in football to any match between fierce rivals Real Madrid C.F. and FC Barcelona).

The Dh2,999 device has got the football club’s emblem engraved on the rear of its all-metal body and a custom theme that screams red and blue at you as soon as you power it up.

Besides all the footy-related features, the phone is premium. It’s massive, thanks to its six-inch screen, which by the way is a 1080p super AMOLED display. It’s quite hefty at 192g with its all-metallic body forged from a single piece of an aircraft-grade magnesium aluminium alloy. And, similar to Barca fans, it can go on and on and on (and on and on) courtesy of the 4,100mAh ultra-large battery that features flash charging.

If that hasn’t impressed you already, its cameras, a 13MP on the rear and an 8MP on the front, are crisp. Autofocus, a smart anti-shake optimisation, hypersensitive focusing and a feature called instantaneous image generation are all stuffed into the phone because, why not?

The device is powered by a Qualcomm 615 octa-core processor, with 32GB of storage and 3GB RAM. If you’re one of those rare sorts who’s probably tutting away right now because of its processor, here’s something else to keep you up at night — it has no NFC technology.

Lastly, R7 Plus’ fingerprint sensor is quick and could keep up with my go-to fingerprint-scanning test device, the Huawei Mate S. Users can save up to five fingerprints — which is the norm these days — and enable a guest mode, something similar to what HTC did with its One Max back in the day.
Now for the fun part, OPPO UAE brought just 20 of these limited-edition devices to the country. So if you truly want this device, best of luck finding one.
