WhatsApp's pre-set themes adjust backgrounds and bubbles automatically
Dubai: WhatsApp is rolling out new chat themes, allowing Android and iOS users to personalise their chat experience. The “Chat Theme” feature offers 22 pre-set themes and 30 new wallpapers with colourful backgrounds, alternative chat bubbles, and more.
First spotted in a beta version last year, the new feature allows users to apply themes to all chats or choose a specific theme for individual conversations. Here's everything you need to know about it:
What Is the Chat Themes Feature?
The new feature lets users choose from 22 pre-set themes and 30 wallpapers with vibrant backgrounds, alternative chat bubbles, and other customisation options.
You can apply a theme to all your chats or select a different theme for individual conversations. These themes are private and only visible to you and can also be applied to Channels.
In addition to the pre-set themes, WhatsApp lets users customise their preferences, such as adjusting the background brightness and changing the colour of outgoing messages.
Incoming messages will remain either white or grey, depending on whether the user has a light or dark theme enabled.
If you don’t like the pre-set themes or bundled wallpapers, you can upload your own background from your gallery or camera roll.

Customisation: Apply the same theme to all chats or select different themes for individual conversations and channels. Your themes remain private to you.
How to change chat themes
To change the theme for all chats, go to Settings > Chats > Default chat theme.
To customise individual chats, tap the chat name at the top (iOS) or the 3-dot menu (Android) > Chat theme.
WhatsApp is currently rolling out these features globally, and they will be available to all users within the next few weeks.
