The Samsung E900 is a nice phone if you can navigate the touchscreen mode.
For the technical minded, there's always the internet. It gives you all the specifications and techie info you could want. For the rest, who want a personal opinion, keep reading.
To begin with, I have to be completely honest. I've never owned, nor have I ever used a Samsung mobile phone before. So naturally, wariness was part of the initial approach to the phone. However, fair is fair and different doesn't mean bad. The E900 is sleek and beautiful. Like a black, svelte sports car. The slide opening mechanism is visual eye candy. Samsung seems to have mastered the art of pretty packaging to sell a product. The touchscreen mode, which appears to be another major attraction, is however, a little hard to master, especially for those used to regular keypads.
It seemed to me that everytime I tried to take a picture, I ended up in my message inbox, or to actually go to my messages, I'd end up dialing numbers of people I had no intention whatsoever to speak to. Unfortunately, even two weeks into using the phone, using the touch screen wasn't something that came automatically to me.
On the plus side though, the one thing I loved about this phone is the font size on the screen. How many of us have problems reading the numbers calling us or the ones we're dialling? Let's face facts. Most people over the age of 30 wish they had a phone that wouldn't embarrass them into wearing their glasses every time they had to use the mobile. With the extra large font on the E900, reading numbers without your glasses has never been easier.
Another important feature is the camera. Like some of the better phones in the market, the E900 has a 2 megapixel camera with a 4x digital zoom to grab still photos as well as records. Changing your saved photos from regular quality to sepia tone, negative or one of many other options is a great feature. The phone also comes with a built-in music player and Bluetooth connectivity Now, unless you're the kind that collects and hordes files on your phone without ever transferring them, chances are you might just be happy with the 80MB built-in memory capacity of the phone.
When it comes to battery usage, there was nothing to complain about. Once fully charged, the battery lasted me 3 days (with normal phone usage). When you get to that crucial stage when your phone dies on you, the E900 is very quick to recharge. About an hour and your phone is ready for it's next 3-day life cycle.
Bottom line: the Samsung SGH E900 is one of those phones that combines both style and function - as long as you can get around the touchscreen mode.
