Dubai: Weather once again intervened a day before the start of the main round of the Dubai Duty Free Men's Open yesterday, but tournament director Salah Tahlak said there is no reason to worry, going by the forecast from the Met office.

"We have learnt from the Met office that the hazy conditions will settle down by late evening and we will be up and running with our Day One matches from tomorrow [Monday]," Tahlak told Gulf News.

Qualifiers rescheduled

With a sandstorm gaining momentum in the early hours, the final round of qualifiers had to be re-scheduled by three hours for a 2 pm start instead of 11 am by ATP Supervisor Gerry Armstrong.

"There is no forecast of rain for sure, and that puts us at ease," Tahlak said.

"Even if there is rain, then we are always in a ready mode to ensure the courts are covered and the players stay comfortable," the tournament director added.

"The chances are the temperatures might go down a bit during the week and this would be good for the tournament as spectators can come and enjoy some high-quality tennis."

Weather forecasts generally said there are 10 per cent chances of rain today, while it is expected to go up to 20 per cent on Wednesday.
