UAE win Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy

Dubai: Apollo Perelini’s UAE team beat hosts Singapore 14-0 in the final of the Asian Rugby Sevens Trophy on Sunday to win promotion to the top tier of the Asian Sevens Series.

They had earlier beaten Nepal 48-0, Indonesia 45-5 and Jordan 36-5 to top their group at the Queenstown Stadium on Saturday, before overcoming Thailand 26-0 in the Sunday’s semi.

New Zealand-born former Samoa dual-code player Perelini tweeted: “It means a lot to win for our adopted home of the UAE.”
