Dubai: The UAE travel to Singapore this weekend for the fourth and final leg of the HSBC Asian Sevens Series, buoyed by their third-place finish in last weekend’s West Asian Sevens Championship.

The all-Emirati side beat Lebanon 22-7 and 19-7, giving the developmental side confidence after having gone three previous Asian Sevens Series events with just two wins (over Uzbekistan and Afghanistan) in 14 matches, where they twice lost the Shield final to India.

In Singapore, the UAE has been drawn with Malaysia and South Korea in the 12-team event, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday.

Hong Kong have been grouped with China and hosts Singapore in the preliminary round, Japan are drawn with Thailand and Chinese Taipei, while Sri Lanka, the Philippines and Indonesia form the other group.

After finishing 12th in Malaysia and 14th in both Thailand and India, the UAE are using this series to gain experience for upcoming players who have been produced by the HSBC Player Pathway Programme.
