London: Injury-hit Wales have called up Ospreys wing Eli Walker to replace Liam Williams ahead of this weekend’s World Cup quarter-final against South Africa.

Scarlets back Williams was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a foot injury in Wales’ 15-6 defeat against Australia in the Pool A decider at Twickenham on Saturday.

“Ospreys wing Eli Walker has been called into Wales’ Rugby World Cup squad and will link up with the squad immediately,” a Welsh Rugby Union statement read.

“The 23-year-old was originally named in the 31-man RWC squad but was released due to injury ahead of the tournament.

“Walker replaces Liam Williams, who was released on Sunday.”
