Dubai: If you’re looking for a place to usher in the incredible winter sporting season in Dubai, you probably won’t find a better one than 7he Sevens stadium. Host to the Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens from Thursday to Saturday, this spectacular event, now in its 44th year, showcases all that is best about the city.
While it may be a sporting event in name, for most expats, it is one big social gathering. It’s an occasion for the family to spend their weekend outdoors, with loads of activities and of course, world class rugby to boot.
The event has always thrown up novelty every year and this year will be no different. For starters, there will be an entrance at 7he Sevens specifically for families with 2000 seats dedicated to mums, dads and children in The Air BP stand.
To top it off, there will be a bigger and improved crèche for toddlers with top quality facilities and entertainment. Children’s entertainment include the HSBC World of Sport, face painting, bouncy castles, and lots more.
The campaign slogan of this year’s Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens is Get Your Game Face On. The idea is to encourage supporters to let their hair down, stand out among the crowd, come in fancy dress, and turn the 2013 Emirates Dubai Rugby Sevens the biggest party the tournament has ever seen.
The wackier the fancy dress, more the chance of winning a prize - supporters in outrageous costumes will be picked out during the day.
Tournament cheerleaders the Aggreko Dynamos are back from Australia by popular demand. The brightly dressed girls will be wowing crowds between matches and will be joining in the PR activity, visiting bars and malls around town, and giving people a preview of how they’ll be entertaining the crowds at 7he Sevens.
And, talking of off the field entertainment, Friday and Saturday evening of the tournament is an open invitation to party till midnight at Rugby Rock, in the Rugby Village at 7he Sevens stadium.
FREE BUSES
But don’t drink and drive. Take advantage of the tournament’s free bus services, which will be available to transport fans away from 7he Sevens to several convenient locations across Dubai.
These include: Dubai Media City (family drop-off points), Dubai Festival City, Barasti, Irish Village, and more.
If you do take your car, there is easy access parking for over 12,000 cars on all three days. Parking is free.
