Paul Austin will once again captain the Arabian Gulf squad in both the Emirates Airline Dubai 7s in Dubai and the South African leg of the IRB World Series which take place next month.

The Dubai Dragons centre leads an experienced outfit which came desperately close in September to qualifying in Sri Lanka for next year's Rugby World Cup 7s finals in Hong Kong.

And the Gulf squad has the added advantage of being able to take 10 players from Dubai on to George the following week.

The Gulf, who are sponsored by Standard Chartered, face tremendously tough draws in both tournaments.

In Dubai, Austin's side have group games against New Zealand, Australia and Canada, while in George they begin their challenge for honours against Fiji, Argentina and Scotland.

But head of rugby Darryl Weir, said: "I'm very excited by the draw at both tournaments.

"We are the clear underdogs and have absolutely nothing to lose. The pressure is all on the other teams, and that means we can try to play our own game."

The Gulf squad, whose kit is sponsored by ProSport, went into the Asian qualifying tournament in Sri Lanka for the World Cup sevens finals on the back of months of fitness and skills training.

And that intensity is now being repeated as many of the same players prepare for their latest chance to shine on the international stage.

Weir said: "We are in the fortunate position of being able to enjoy great continuity in terms of the make-up of our squad, from Sri Lanka to Dubai and George."
