Abu Dhabi: Lewis Hamilton has presented a replica of his race helmet with ‘44’ branding to a leading Abu Dhabi official ahead of the Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on Sunday.
The handover to the Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority (TCA), Jasem Al Darmaki, marks the partnership between the F1 world champion, whose race number is 44, and Abu Dhabi, which next week celebrates the UAE’s 44th National Day.
The three-time world champion will wear the specially-made ‘44’ helmet during the season finale at Yas Marina Circuit.
“We are immensely proud that Lewis will share the occasion of our 44th National Day with a global audience, and to have the endorsement of the 2015 world champion speaks volumes for his affinity to Abu Dhabi,” Al Darmaki said.
“Lewis, who drives so spectacularly under the number 44, epitomises values of passion and commitment, both equally respected by the people of the UAE, and is an inspirational ambassador for his sport.”
Hamilton has been celebrating the 44th UAE National Day through various posts on his social media channels and organisers say he has felt very at home at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend. The number ‘44’ appears on the Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management (ADMM) HQ building, which sits alongside the longest straight on the Formula 1 calendar.
As part of his partnership with Abu Dhabi, Hamilton will also wear ‘44’ and the UAE colours on his race gloves during the season-ending race, in which he could win his 44th Grand Prix.
