The race first appeared on the calendar in 2016, as the European Grand Prix. The name changed last year, when the race was held in June.

Ricciardo is the only current driver to have won there, with now retired 2016 champion Nico Rosberg taking the inaugural victory for Mercedes.

Azerbaijan and France’s Le Castellet, returning for the first time in 28 years, are the only tracks on the current calendar where Hamilton has yet to win.

The Baku track is the second longest on the calendar after Spa-Francorchamps, and one of the fastest. The 2.1km straight is the longest of the season.
