Dubai: The Philippines secured a spot in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinals after a 95-88 overtime win against host Saudi Arabia on Monday, August 11 (Tuesday in Manila).

Justin Brownlee forced overtime with a three-pointer in the final seconds of regulation and led Gilas with 29 points, five assists, and four rebounds.

"As a player, you know, these are the games you dream about and you really look forward to playing," Brownlee said after the win. "I just got to give credit to both teams. Just luckily and happy we can come away with a win and advance in this tournament."

AJ Edu added 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Kevin Quiambao scored 17, including key baskets in the extra period.

Saudi Arabia’s Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman scored 33 points, 8 triples, 5 rebounds and 4 assists but was neutralized in the overtime period. The loss ended the host nation’s bid for its first top-eight finish since 2005.

The Philippines outscored Saudi Arabia 16-9 in overtime.

"It was a special game. It was a special performance by both teams. The home team really came to play and they were phenomenal," Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone said in the post-game press conference.

Gilas, holding a 2-2 record, will meet defending champion Australia on August 13 at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah.
