Dubai: Twelve months after finishing third in the Sharjah Equestrian Club’s Straight Egyptian Arabian Horse Show, Amaar Al Rayyan swept the coveted gold medal for stallions aged three years and over on the final day of competition.

The Al Dhabi Arabian Horse Stud-owned horse impressed three of the four ringside judges to triumph over Dubai Arabian Horse Stud’s D Haydar, who for the second straight year had to settle for the Silver medal.

Makhloof, representing the Al Qasimi Stables, claimed bronze having also finished third in the Colts division last year.

Al Zobair Stud clinched two prestigious golds when Nemroud Al Zobair was crowned champion colt (more than three years) while Narek Al Zobair clinched the Fillies title.

For Nemroud Al Zobair, it was a second successive gold medal performance following his victory 12 months ago at the Sharjah Equestrian Club.

Al Zobair Club also clinched the silver medal in the division with Nashme Al Zobair while Dubai Arabian Horse Stud’s D Atallah was declared bronze champion. Finishing second to Narek Al Zobair in the fillies category (under-three years) was Al Zobair Stud’s Daleeah while Al Qasimi Stables-owned Ekleel won the bronze.

Over 100 of the region’s best show horses competed for top honours in three-day festival held under the patronage of His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. The event showcased the beauty and highlighted the status of the Arabian horse. The competition was organised by the Sharjah Equestrian and Racing Club in cooperation with the Emirates Arabian Horse Society. Sharjah Airport international Free Zone (SAIF Zone) is the principal sponsor.

Horses representing the leading clubs, stables, farms and studs in the UAE competed for four championship prizes — stallions, mares, colts and fillies. They were judged by a panel of five judges, who assessed five principal aspects of the horse’s conformation — overall shape, body, head and neck and leg movement.
