Golfers from different nations will head to The Track golf course at Meydan for the inaugural World Night Golf Championship on February 13.

The individual stableford event is aimed at players of different nationalities who will compete head-to-head to win the title of World Night Golf Champion for their country and individual prizes from Taylormade, Troon Golf and Meydan Hotel.

It is the first event of its kind in the city and is has been designed by Troon Golf, who run the course for Meydan Golf.

Chris Walker, who is originally from Scotland and now works in the legal profession in Dubai, believes tournaments need to be open to as many players as possible.

“There are so many great courses in the country but a lot of tournaments seem to be aimed at the best players,” he said.

“Events like this combine a bit more fun and so you can get competitive without having to take it all too seriously.”

The Track is the country's only true pay-and-play course and so the events they create are often different than traditional courses would put on.

With floodlit golf now fully operational there will be further tournaments throughout 2013 - especially in the summer months when the heat makes daytime golf difficult for players.

Golfers of all abilities can sign up for the event for Dh350 per person. Shotgun start is 6pm.
