From Tuesday, we knew he was a man on a mission.

Defeated United States Ryder Cupper Bryson DeChambeau came out for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic determined to prove that his meticulous, scientific approach to the game was the way forward.

“I hold no grudges, except for that 60-footer Alex Noren holed against me in Paris,” he joked ahead of tee-off at Emirates Golf Course.

He was right. Players embraced like long-lost friends as they greeted each other, regardless of the history they had. It was an admirable and exemplary illustration of professionalism and respect we fail to see in other sports.

More seriously, he remarked: “I’m here to win and 99 per cent of the time, my approach will work.”

After a seven-stroke victory on the Majlis course, it’s hard to argue. While Lee Westwood et al were chipping in and practising putting, ‘The Scientist’ was on the warm-up green with a measuring tape, going over blades of grass he would not meet on the competition course.

It is astounding what he does, and how he implements it.

How he sleeps is one matter, but it will be more comfortable with the ODDC trophy beside him. Mark my words, many majors are coming for DeChambeau.

Please, if you have a chance, just watch him in action.
