Dubai: A field of 76 players will tee off on Thursday at The Montgomerie to compete in the Gulf News Merchants Cup Golf Tournament.

Organised by Gulf News every year since 1996, the event attracts keen golfers from within the business fraternity and beyond.

The tournament will be played in a Pairs Stableford (3/4 handicap) format, with the best Stableford score counting on each hole. The men will start off from the Blue Sapphire tees and the ladies from the Red Ruby tees.

Registration opens at 11am and players will tee off at 12.50pm following a shotgun start.

Duleep George, Executive Director Marketing & Sales, Al Nisr Group, said: “We are really very proud to be organising the 17th edition of our Merchants Cup and it will be a pleasure to welcome friends, both old and new at the tournament, which looks all set to be very keenly contested.”

Apart from the prizes to the pairs of the top five scorers, there will also be prizes awarded in various categories including the Nearest the Pin (holes 8 and 17), the Longest Drive (holes 10 and 18) and the Straightest Drive (hole 1).

Patrick Wynn, Director of Golf at The Montgomerie, said: “We are delighted to have Gulf News back with us for the seventh year now, for what we hope will be another highly successful tournament. We appreciate all their support and look forward to our continuing relationship.”
