Westwood will be nowhere if he can't rely on his putter

Forget length, forget the high draw. The Masters is all about who holes the eight-footers

Forget length, forget the high draw that people talk about. The Masters is all about who holes the eight-footers.

I was watching Lee Westwood in Houston last week. There was a lot of discussion about Lee's putting.

He said himself that he turned a possible 62 on the final day into a 68. I could see that he was not aiming the putter correctly. He was aiming off the way I used to do and either pushing or pulling the stroke.

He must get that putter flowing, get it aiming on line to start with or else he will not be in contention at the end of the week. He hits the ball as well as anyone, if not better than any. It is all to do with getting that ball in from inside ten feet.

If this were the Ryder Cup I would feel able to mention something to him. But this is not in my remit. I wish them all well. That's as far as my involvement goes.

Great shape

I hope Lee gets to grips with his putter because he has brought the rest of his game with him. Augusta is not a place to be searching for your game. His is in great shape. If he can come out of the blocks quickly and get under par then the confidence will flow and he will be in contention.

We saw at Houston over the weekend how important confidence is. Padraig Harrington finished eighth and is back at the top of his game. I'd love him to do well.

I put him under a lot of pressure by picking him in the Ryder Cup when he wasn't in the best form. I'm delighted he's getting back to the Harrington of whom we expect so much. He has never been the straightest off the tee, as he'll tell you. But there is leeway here. Padraig has great course management and is tough as old boots, so I see him having a great opportunity to win.
