Dubai: The husband-and-wife pairing of Archie and M.P. Sharma rode a wave of birdies to win the 15th annual Gulf News Merchants Cup, which was played in perfect golfing conditions at The Montgomerie, Dubai, yesterday.

Finishing on an impressive 44 stableford points the Sharma's won the event in style from Inderpal Singh and Zoyed Mohammad with 44 stableford points.

Archie's blistering round featured a spectacular seven birdies.

There was a three-way tie for third place at 42 stableford points with Jane Gray and Rita Walker finishing fifth, Lalu Mahtani and Nelly Armani fourth, and Abizer Mohammad and Burhan Mohammad third when scores were compared on a count back.

The Montgomerie course was in pristine shape with the fairways and greens in immaculate condition and the full field competing in the event for a chance to win fabulous prizes shot low scores in the two-person better ball stableford format.

The men teed-off from the Blue Sapphire tees and the ladies from the Red Ruby tees.

On the completion of play, each pair Betterball Stableford score was combined to give a team total.
