Sharjah: Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club (SGSC) has announced that 50 per cent of all green fees over the weekend of May 1-2 will be donated to aid victims of the Nepal earthquake disaster.

The death toll from Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake is over 3,000 with 6,500 injured at the time of print.

SGSC managing director Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Al Thani said the club were spurred into action by the “awful” news. “As soon as we heard of the awful events in Nepal we wanted to do something to help. We have around 20 Nepali staff at the club, most of whom are affected in some way, and Nepal also has a special place in my heart having personally scaled Mount Everest just under a year ago.

“Nepal is a wonderful country and has wonderful people that clearly need help through these horrific times. Obviously we hope the money we raise can go some way to helping those who are affected.”

In addition to the green fee donation there will be a collection box with all funds being donated to the cause and numerous novelty events around the course over the weekend with 50 per cent of these funds also being donated.
