Sharjah chess tournament draws impressive field

Players from 23 countries confirmed for event

Sharjah: More than 200 players from 23 countries will participate in the 21st Sharjah International Chess Championship that will be hosted by the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club from June 11 to 18.

In addition to the host country, players from Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, Sudan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Czech Republic, Ukraine, France, Germany, Greece, India, Philippines, Iran, Bangladesh and Armenia have confirmed their participation.

The details of the tournament were announced at a press conference held at the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club’s headquarters in Al Juraina, Sharjah, on Thursday in the presence of Shaikh Saud Bin Abdul Aziz Al Mualla, Chairman, Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club, Dr Sarhan Hassan Al Muaini, Chairman, Organising Committee, and Wahib Jafar Al Zarouni, Championship Director.

Al Hamad Contracting, Al Tunaiji Real Estate, Consolidated Contractors Company, Mega Mall and Sharjah Sport Channel are among the sponsors of the event.
