Dubai: Details of the schedule for the 2012 Shaikh Rashid Trophy, to be held over three local courses from November 22-24, were announced on Monday.

The draw for the first round, which will be held at The Els Club, mixes low and medium handicap players together to ensure a consistent speed and standard of play within each three-ball group.

Round two at Al Badia Golf Club will be made in gross order, with leaders out last. The top 30 and ties after the second round will make the cut to play in the final round hosted by main sponsors Jebel Ali Golf Resort.

Being a qualifier for the World Amateur Golf Rankings, it will be a walking tournament for all three rounds. The Shaikh Rashid Trophy is also a points-paying event for the EGF Order of Merit series.

The UAE’s flagship amateur event will feature 81 players, with the opening three-ball teeing off at 7am. Significant entries include Dino Varkey, Ricky Domiguez, Paul King, John Fellingham and Craig Forrest.

UAE national team members will miss the event as they depart for Bahrain on Friday to compete in the Arab Golf Championships. However, junior national team members Omar Al Shehhi, Akram Skaik and Fathi Skaik will be making their Shaikh Rashid Trophy debuts.

More experienced juniors Phillip Urasch, Conor Keegan, Rory Blincow, Eoin Cunniffe, Ronan Hall and Ryan Hunter are also in contention for the coveted trophy.

The Shaikh Rashid Trophy is sponsored by Jebel Ali Golf Resort and supported by Gulf News and Ernst & Young.
