Rashid Al Abbar played his finest tournament round of his young career in the UAE January Nationals Monthly Medal with a scintillating two under par 70 at The Montgomerie Dubai.

Played in testing conditions around the 6,720-yard layout, Al Abbar recovered from a bogey at his opening hole to make the turn in level par and went on to play a very steady two under par back nine consisting of three birdies, five par's and just one bogey.

"Since I came back from school for the holiday period, I have been hitting the ball well but just struggling to score and today everything clicked.

"After the bogey at the first I played some great shots and to keep my focus on the back nine holes was very encouraging. As my handicap is now 5, I am keen to reduce it further," said a delighted Al Abbar.

In second and third places were fellow National team members Faris Al Mazroui and Khalid Yousuf. Mazroui's six over par 78 was good enough to be just one shot ahead of Yousuf.

In the net divisions Saif Sultan Al Shamsi took division A with a score of 72 and Rashid Al Mazroui won division B with 76.
