David Lynn’s secondplace finish to Simon Dyson at the KLM Open saw the Englishman secure his place in the top 60 in The Race to Dubai

Dubai: David Lynn's second-place finish to Simon Dyson at the KLM Open saw the Englishman secure his place in the top 60 in The Race to Dubai, guaranteeing him an appearance in the season-ending Dubai World Championship presented by DP World.
While Dyson's €300,000 winner's cheque saw him smash the €1 million barrier for season's earnings and move up one place to ninth position, Lynn's €200,000 cheque meant a hugely significant leap forward - from 67th to 38th for the Englishman.
Lynn was in 74th place in The Race to Dubai a fortnight ago, but a sixth place finish in the Omega European Masters and then last week's rousing performance in Holland mean he has jumped 36 places in the space of two weeks.
Lynn will now contest the $7.5 million Dubai World Championship over the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates from December 8-11, after considering taking an early end of season break before his excellent run of results changed his outlook.
"The Dubai World Championship was something I had not even thought about until right now to be honest with you," admitted Lynn at the KLM Open on Sunday.
"I was actually going to hang the spikes up in another four or five tournaments, so with any luck, I will be playing for longer than I thought at the end of the year.
"The Dubai World Championship is a huge tournament and the one we all want to be playing in at the end of the season. The prize fund is massive and then there is also the $7.5 million Bonus Pool - it is a very big event."
Golf radar: on a course near you
This September marks the return of one of the most hotly anticipated local golfing events of the season as the Dubai Golf Trophy returns to The Faldo Course at Emirates Golf Club on September 22 and 23. Over two days of intense competition, the 16 leading UAE-based PGA professionals and the leading 16 Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) amateur golfers will go head to head in a Ryder Cup style showdown in a bid to be crowned champions in the twelfth edition of the Dubai Golf Trophy.
The event originally started as a social season-ending tournament in 2000 at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Since then, the event has grown in popularity and prestige and is now one of the highlights of the local golfing calendar for professionals and amateurs alike. The professionals claimed victory in the 2010 competition, their third consecutive trophy and a total of nine wins against the amateurs' two victories in 2005 and 2007.
