Liverpool FC midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain swapped his football boots for golf clubs today with the England star among the amateurs to play alongside the world’s best stars at the Aviv Dubai Championship Pro-Am.

The 28-year-old, an avid fan of the sport, showcased his golf skills as he joined American professional Johannes Veerman, who had secured his first victory on the European Tour circuit this year at the D+D Real Czech Masters, and Christopher May, the CEO of Dubai Golf on the Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Other famous sports stars to take to the course was Mike Phillips, former Wales rugby international who made 94 appearances for the national team. The 39-year-old former scrumhalf played alongside Spanish professional Rafa Cabrera Bello, who most recently won last month’s Acciona Open de España.

The Aviv Dubai Championship kicks off on Thursday and will run until Sunday. It will be the last chance for players to qualify for the European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship where the top-50 players on the Race to Dubai rankings on Sunday will battle it out on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates to be named European Number One.

The event has attracted a stellar field, featuring defending champion Antoine Rozner, former Race to Dubai winners Tommy Fleetwood and Martin Kaymer as well as World Number 27 Paul Casey and European Ryder Cup Captain, Padraig Harrington.
