The Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) has hosted the first ever UAE Golf Managers General Assembly with managers of all clubs in the UAE invited to attend.

Chaired by Gen. Abdullah Alhashmi, Vice-Chairman of the EGF, the meeting laid out the role of the EGF as the governing body for golf — from professional tournaments, the UAE PGA and all matters to do with amateur golf, reporting to the General Authority of Sport and the Ministry of Sport.

A four-point vision was mandated. This included the following:

Administer the playing of the game by all golfers in the UAE, and safeguarding its integrity through the R&A rules of golf and amateur status and the recently introduced World Handicap System; represent the UAE globally through its affiliation with world governing bodies and the federations of golf; inspire, encourage and generate growth in the game of golf in the UAE through participation and development programmes including national teams development and grassroots golf; create equal opportunities and a sustainable approach for the UAE golf industry, while making the game of golf accessible for everyone.

The assembly, held at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, was also attended by EGF Director-General Akram Skaik, and Robert Fiala, EGF Marketing and Operations Manager.

“This is the first quarterly assembly we will have with all the UAE golf clubs and handicap committees,” Alhashmi said. “They will be important to provide a regular forum to share our collective industry challenges as well as being strong together, and re-establish where the golf clubs will work together for everyone’s benefit. We also established that the Emirates Golf Federation membership must add value for UAE golf and UAE golfers as well as having an open discussion about a mutually beneficial alliance between the EGF and all the UAE clubs.”
