Ian Poulter, the Ryder Cup superstar and European Tour veteran, on Thursday declared his delight at DP World’s investment in the sport of golf.

Last week heralded a new era in golf after the European Tour announced it will be rebranded as the DP World Tour from next season.

The announcement represents a significant deal in terms of global sports partnerships, with DP World’s substantial commitment dedicated to three key areas: elevating the Tour in every way, growing the game of golf globally, and driving positive community impact.

The new look DP World Tour will see total prize money break through the $200 million mark for the first time, with a new minimum prize fund of $2 million for all tournaments solely sanctioned by the DP World Tour.

Speaking after his one-over 73 round at the season-ending DP World Tour Championsahip, Poulter said: “It is always good to be in Dubai. I have been coming here for 20-plus years and I have so many good memories here. The friends and family always come over to watch, and it is such a special place,

“DP World’s involvement - giving a financial boost to the tour - and now for it to become the DP World Tour is graet news for golf and for the sporting world. It also boosts the Challenge Tour and all the other events, so it trickles down.

“They have been a great parener for more than 10 years and what they have done in and around golf is very special. They are doing so much more than being a sponsor. They take it to the grassroots.

“They are very inclusive with the EGF and EDGA, getting involved in all these events - not just the big ones like this, and that is suvch a great thing. It’s great to see their involvement in the big picture.

“They are looking to grow the game and it will trickle down due to their investment and we will see the results. That is all we can ask for.”
