Honoured to be voted champion
I played the Volvo Masters of Asia, the season-ending championship of the Asian Tour, last week. Even though it was an utterly forgettable tournament for me, I will never forget the Sunday evening for sure.
The first round was exactly what I expected. I wasn't sharp at all and could only shoot a four-over 76. The next two days were a bit better as I returned cards of two-under 70 before closing with an even-par 72. That was good enough only for a tied 37th place, but as I said, the Sunday evening still turned out to be great.
At the end-of-the-year gala dinner, I was crowned the Asian Tour's Order of Merit champion for the second time in three years. While that was a great honour, I was also chosen the Players' Player of the Year.
I consider that as a huge achievement because this award is based on voting by players on the Asian Tour. These are the guys with whom I have competed week after week.
They will never give an inch during a competition, and they don't expect anything similar from me either. So, for them to say that I was the best among them during the year means a lot to me.
The year is not yet over for me as I am committed to playing a tournament on our domestic Indian tour. There is a lot of expectations from me, but I can feel that I am almost running out of fuel.
I am looking forward to the three-week break after the BILT Open, and then return for the Desert Swing on the European Tour with the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. Hopefully, my batteries will be re-charged by then.
As I wrote last week, I could not play the South African Open because I had to be there in Bangkok. It was great to see Richard Sterne win his second title in as many weeks.
