Etihad summer open : Yassin flies high with triple Sharjah birdie blitz
Sharjah : Three birdies on the way to a stableford total of 39 points proved enough for five-handicapper Ramsey Yassin to win the Etihad Summer Open Golf Championship at Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club.
Playing on his home course, Yassin registered two of his birdies on the long par fives on the front nine of the Peter Harradine-designed “double nine'' layout and secured his third on the par three 12th hole.
At the presentation Yassin thanked sponsors Etihad, Orient Travel and Al Nawras Catering for supporting the event which, though in only its second year, is fast becoming one of the highlights on the UAE calendar.
Other prizes went to Darryl Blanchard (eight handicap) from Arabian Ranches for winning Division A with 37 points and Frederick Matabang (EGF, 20) who returned 38 points to win Division B. Sami Butt (Dubal, six) took the gross prize with 30 points while Nasha Sarkari (Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club, 10) won the Ladies Division. Other prizes were collected by Bill Buchanan (Sharjah GSC) with 29 gross points and Serifa DeSouza (Dubai Creek, 16) with 16 gross points.
Sherief Abbas, Etihad sales manager for Sharjah and the northern emirates, pledged that Etihad will continue its support of such sporting events.
