Dubai: Dubai-based golfer Ross Bain battled soggy conditions at Carnoustie to finish the British Open with a round of 74 yesterday.

The Scotsman, who has lived in Dubai since the age of seven, started the day off well, despite the fact torrential overnight rain had organisers threatening to call the day's play off at one stage, and birdied the third.

But a double bogey on the seventh saw things going a little awry and another bogey on the eighth didn't improve matters.

The back nine brought with it a further two bogeys (on the 12th and the 18th) and one more birdie on the 14th, with Bain finishing his first Major on six over.

The Arabian Ranches golfer played superbly in the second round, recording five birdies in the last nine holes and making the cut after finishing the day with what turned out to be his best Open round - a 71.
