Dubai: Overnight leader Shane Lowry of Ireland got the crowd cheering wildly when he made a hole-in-one at the 13th hole on the second day of the DP World Tour Championship on Friday.

Lowry was all smiles as he saw his six-iron shot land straight into the cup on the par-3 183-yard hole. The Irishman was duly rewarded by sponsors with a two-night stay at Atlantis The Palm along with free breakfast and dinner for two at the five-star hotel’s Yuan restaurant. During his stay, Lowry will also get free access to the Imperial Club, Aquaventure and the Lost Chambers.

The 27-year-old from Ireland had matched Rory McIlroy on the opening day with a well-measured six-under par 66 – coming away with seven birdies and a bogey on the 10th.

However, on Friday, Lowry managed just two birdies on the first stretch, till the hole-in-one on the 13th pushed him up among the leaders.
