Dubai: Nelly Amarnani and Nishit Patel produced some solid golf to take the honours in the New Year Cup, organised by the Indian Golfers Society, at the Faldo course of the Emirates Golf Club.

Amarnani carded a brilliant 37 points to win the title in Division A, a good two points ahead of Rafael Areggar, a scratch golfer from Switzerland. A.E. Ravi finished third on 34 points.

The competition was equally intense in Division B where Patel held his nerve to tally 30 points. Shekhar Reddy settled for second on a countback with Janish Khurana after both signed off with an identical 28 points.

Ever consistent Anand Lakhiani walked away with Best Senior prize after posting a fine 31 in the event which followed the individual stableford format with a three-quarter handicap allowance.

David Freeborn of the main sponsors, Chivas, presented the prizes in the company of K.J. Singh, chairman of the Indian Golfers Society.

RESULTS

Division A (Handicap 0-10): 1. Nelly Amarnani 37 points, 2. Rafael Areggar 35, 3. AE Ravi 34.

Division B (Handicap 11-20): 1. Nishit Patel 30 points, 2. Shekhar Reddy 28 (countback), 3. Janish Khurana 28.

Best senior: Anand Lakhiani 31 points

Nearest to pin prizes: Malay Shah (second hole), Kush Sama (12th)

Longest drives: Hitesh Bhayani (third), Kabir Luthra (fifth), Satya Goel (10th) and Rohit Gupta (16th).
