Abu Dhabi: Fifty-two international golf champions, including two-time World Golf Championship winner Ulsterman Darren Clarke and two-time US Open Champion Retief Goosen, will tee off at the fifth Emirates Airline Invitational hosted by Abdullah Al Naboudah that will take place at the Yas Links Golf Club next Monday.

"The decision to move the invitational from Dubai to the Yas Links came when I visited the golf course while it was still under construction a year ago," Al Naboudah said.

"I saw some holes that were almost complete and thought that the Yas Links would be a great setting for it," he added.

"I'm always a fan of Karl Phillips and the playability of his designs. Another special thing about the location is the wind… hopefully the winds will be high on Monday so the tournament will be tricky."

The one-day tournament will also see 52 amateur golfers from the world of entertainment, commerce and sport, including ex-international footballer Jamie Redknapp and former England cricketer Michael Vaughan compete for the event's $500,000 (Dh1.83 million) prize fund, of which $150,000 will go to charity.

"The Invitational has contributed more than Dh2m to international and local charities and this year, we hope to raise proceeds for the Future Centre for Special Needs, the Make a Wish Foundation UAE and Breast Friends by collecting donations during the day as well as through a silent auction of signed golf memorabilia and a live auction at the Gala Dinner," said tournament director James Bowring.
