Abu Dhabi: The Arabian Gulf League’s bottom club Kalba recorded their first victory of the season with a shock 2-0 home win over Al Nasr on Monday.

The Dubai club dominated and did everything but score, only to eventually end up on the losing side after late Luis Leal and Wael Ayan strikes lifted Kalba to victory.

Just when it seemed that the match would end in a stalemate, hosts Kalba got a free-kick outside the box and Leal blasted a thunderbolt that gave Al Nasr keeper Ahmad Shambieh no chance.

Then, with Al Nasr pressing for an equaliser, Kalba made another breakthrough four minutes into injury time. Leal set Ayan away with a measured through ball and the latter completed the formalities with a neat finish.

Kalba now have four points from 12 matches, while Al Nasr stay fifth with 21 points.

In the late evening match on Sunday, Al Jazira squandered a two-goal advantage but came back with an injury-time winner to beat Al Shabab 4-3 at the Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium.

Ali Mabkhout starred for Al Jazira with a hat-trick, while Manuel Lanzini was also on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Al Jazira, with that victory also overtook Al Shabab in the table with 24 points from 12 games. For the hosts, Henrique Luvannor socred a brace and Azizbek Haydarov was also on target. They remain on 22 points with one game in hand.

Elsewhere, a solitary goal from Khalifa Ibrahim in the 49th minute was enough to see Al Dhafra past Sharjah. The win leaves both clubs on 12 points from 12 games.
