Abu Dhabi: Cristiano Ronaldo is offering his legions of fans a once-in-a-lifetime chance to spend a day in his company — and have their hair cut with with him.
The Portuguese superstar is asking people to donate to charity and earn a raffle ticket, with two winners receiving VIP seats for Real Madrid’s El Clasico showdown with Barcelona on Sunday, November 22.
The coveted prize will include a pre-match meal with Ronaldo and the bizarre opportunity to have their hair cut — with the striker also set to have a trim. It also includes flights to Madrid and accommodation for three nights at a four-star hotel.
Other prizes being offered include signed Ronaldo shirts and footballs.
Those interested can buy tickets from $10 (Dh37) for 100 chances to $20,000 for 200,000 chances, with proceeds going to the Artists for Peace and Justice charity. This supports communities in Haiti via programmes in education, health-care and dignity through the arts.
The competition is being run by Omaze, a company which offers “once-in-a-lifetime experiences” to raise funds for “amazing causes”.
Of the novel initiative, which will run until November 4, Ronaldo said: “Artists for Peace and Justice is a special group. They’re making a difference in the world.
“They open doors that are closed and they create opportunities for kids to follow their dreams.
“With this campaign, we will create a beautiful football programme in Haiti at an Artists for Peace and Justice school,” he added. “For me, the more I give back to others, the more I get back. It makes me feel really good to help where I can.”
Artists for Peace and Justice Chief Executive Officer, David Belle, said: “Cristiano has fans all over the world and we’re thrilled that people from 160 countries can enter for the chance to spend an incredible day as his best friend.
“We hope that with this campaign we not only raise funds, but also spread awareness about our programmes and our vision.
“The funds raised from this campaign will go toward the development and advancement of sports programmes and facilities at the Academy for Peace and Justice, the only dignified high school of its kind in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.”
