Cape Town: Wriddhiman Saha became the first Indian wicketkeeper to make 10 dismissals in a Test match when he held five catches in South Africa’s second innings on the fourth day of the first Test at Newlands on Monday.

Saha also took five catches in the first innings.

He broke the record held by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who made nine dismissals, with eight catches and a stumping, against Australia in Melbourne in 2014-15.

Saha also became only the fifth wicketkeeper ever to scalp 10 catches in a match. The diminutive wicketkeeper joined the likes of Robert Taylor and Adam Gilchrist to take 10 catches, while he is now only behind Jack Russell and AB De Villiers in this illustrious list.

Since Saha took over from Dhoni as India’s No. 1 wicketkeeper in the longest format of the game, he has gone from strength to strength with his safe displays behind the stumps.

There was also some silver lining when Indian pacer Mohammad Shami joined the band of Indian bowlers to have picked up 50th wicket outside the subcontinent.

He became the 14th Indian bowler to do so when he dismissed Kagiso Rabada in the second innings.

The record for most wickets outside the subcontinent is held by Anil Kumble, who picked up an incredible 200 wickets. Next in line for Shami will be Sreesanth and Venkatesh Prasad, who took 54 and 55 wickets, respectively, outside the Indian subcontinent.
