Mohali: Lendl Simmons scored a magnificent unbeaten century to lift Mumbai Indians to a seven-wicket thrashing of Indian Premier League (IPL) leaders Kings XI Punjab at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium on Wednesday.

The handsome victory, which came with an over to spare, saw Mumbai climb to fifth in the table and kept alive their play-off hopes.

Simmons scored exactly 100 from 61 balls including 14 fours and a pair of sixes.

Earlier, Punjab’s in-form batting suffered a rare wobble as they stumbled to 156 for eight after being put in to bat.

Captain George Bailey top scored with 39 from 30 balls and Manan Vohra and Shaun Marsh also reached 30, but the rest of the batting order failed — including the league’s top scorer Glenn Maxwell, who was caught and bowled by Shreyas Gopal for two.

Gopal (2-32) and Jasprit Bumrah (2-31) were the pick of the Mumbai bowlers.
