With 17 runs needed and 18 balls remaining and 10 wickets in hand, Pakistan is well placed to seal their first ever win in a ICC World Cup match against India.

Pakistan are aiming to finish the match early as Rizwan hits Shami for another cracking boundary in the 16th over. Pakistan's openers have outclassed India's bowling attack in this match, denying them any chance to come back in to the game. Pak 128/0 in 16 overs.

The shoulders are clearly dropping in the Indian camp as Pakistan close in on the win. It's difficult to recall when India last succumbed to such a big defeat against them.

15 overs - Pak 121/0 (Need 31 to win from 30 balls)

Last five overs, Pakistan need 31 runs in 20 balls. Not a difficult task in this format of the game with 10 wickets in hand. Rizwan is on 56 from 44 balls, Babar is on 62 from 46 balls.

Cracking 50 for Muhammad Rizwan with a smashing 4 off Bumrah. He made the difference with a solid start supporting captain Babar Azam for the opening stand. Azam and Rizwan have played dream innings but we still have to see if they can guide Pakistan to victory.

14 overs - Pak 112/0 (Need 40 to win from 36 balls)

Pakistan are in commanding position with only 40 runs needed in 36 balls with 10 wickets in hand. Spinner Jadeja has been hit for two boundaries in his fourth over. Pakistan on 112/0 in 14 overs.

13 overs - Pak 101/0 (Need 51 to win from 42 balls)

This time it is Muhammad Rizwan smashes Chakaravarthy for a huge six. Pakistan's openers refuse to come under pressure from the Indian bowling attack. Babar completes his superb half century and Pakistan are 101/0 after 13 overs.

11 overs - Pak 80/0 (Target 152)

Babar Azam is on song as he hits Bumrah for a fantastic four over long off to recieve applause from both sets of fans in the stadium. Pakistan are 80 without loss after 11 overs and need 72 from 54 balls with 10 wickets in hand.

The Indian bowlers are clearly looking for answers as Azam, Rizwan steer their chase with ease and are 71/0 at halfway mark. A cluster of wickets can be the only remedy for them as Kohli brings back Bumrah a bit late now.

10 overs - Pak 71/0 (Target 152)

Pakistan's openers have shown class so far with a solid batting display. Captain Babar Azam (33) and wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan (35) are doing well.

Babar Azam hits Jadeja for a big six into the stands in the 9th over.

50 up for Pakistan in 7.4 overs without any loss. Babar is on 12 and Rizwan on 30 - both are batting solidly. Pakistan is currently ahead of India in terms of run rate. 100 runs required from 72 balls.

Pakistan have so far refused to throw away any wickets. The openers are still going strong against the Indian bowling attack. They are tackling both pacers and spinners with skill.

India need a breakthrough after Rizwan and Azam stay unseparated on 43 after the powerplay. Seamers are easy to get away with the ball coming on to the bat. Can we see Kohli turning his arm over for a change of pace anytime soon?

5 overs - Pak 35/0 (Target 152)

Pakistani openers have faced the first 5 overs with a slow but steady run rate - but the classy Indian bowling attack is pegging them back. Both Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are looking comfortable against spinners and pacers alike. Pakistan 35/0 in five overs

3 overs - Pak 22/0 (Target 152)

Pakistan openers are sticking to their plan and keeping their heads down to score steadily without losing wickets. Dream start for Pakistan with 22 runs in 3 overs. This is the key in keeping the game going in their favour.

India preferring to unleash their mainline pacers Bhuvaneshwar, Shami and Bumrah in the powerplay couldn't create any problems for Babar Azam and Mohammed Rizwan. A Babar cover drive off Shami has the entire crowd applauding.

Star batsman Babar Azam joins the party. He hits Shami for a four with a classic cover drive in the second over. Solid start with 18 runs in two overs with no loss which has forced India to bring on Bumrah in the third over.

Mid-match summary: India survive Afridi’s blitz to reach a competitive total

India survived an opening salvo from Shaheen Afridi, arguably the best left-arm pace bowler in the game right now, to reach a competitive total of 151 for seven in their high profile Super-12 match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium this evening.

Afridi caught the in-form Rohit Sharma plumb in front of the wicket with the left-hander’s natural angle for nought and then bowled KL Rahul to reduce India to 6/2. It was 31/3 after the powerplay before a 53-run fourth stand between Virat Kohli (57) and Rishabh Pant (39) helped India to recovery.

Pakistan’s chase is likely to get some assistance from the dew factor – which will help the ball come on to the bat.

Afridi was the star of the Pakistan bowling attack as he lit up the stadium with two wickets in his first two overs. He was well supported by Imad Wasim, 10 in two overs.

Spinner Shadab Khan bowled an excellent spell with 22 runs and one wicket. Hassan Ali got two important wickets but was the most expensive bowler with 44 runs. Pacer Haris Rauf with 25 runs in four overs gave a tough time to Indian batters and also pocket an important wicket of Pandiya. Let’s brace for a gripping chase...

Pakistan must be happy after their bowlers did great job to restrict India to 151/7 in 20 overs. A combination of right and left handed bowling worked very well.

Pakistani pacer Hasan Ali strikes again. Jadeja mistimed the slow off-cutter and it is caught by Nawaz on long on. Some relief for Ali who has been so far the most expensive bowler for Pakistan conceding 44 runs in his 4 overs spell. Two more overs to go.

Kohli's 50 comes off 45 balls. He adjusts to the short length of a Hasan delivery for yet another four and then Jadeja picks up another valuable 4 runs. How much can India get to with two overs still to go after this?

Final four overs. These will decide the fate of the match, India are on 110/4 thanks to some excellent bowling. Pakistan has so far been superb in the field making no mistakes and saving a lot of runs. But the bowlers still need to avoid Kohli's big hitting in the final overs...

15 overs - India 100/4

15 overs gone, terrafic effort by the Pakistani bowlers so far especially Afridi and spinner Shadab who have not allowed India's batters including Kohli and big hitter Jadeja swing their arms freely. Shadab completes his brilliant bowling spell with 1 wicket in 4 overs for 22 runs.

Shadab Khan struck again to remove Pant who was getting dangerous. This is why right-handed off-spinners are dangerous for left-handed batsmen.

Pant's cameo of 39 comes to an end but he has done his job. Interesting to see Jadeja coming out ahead of Pandya while India are yet to cross the 100-run mark in the 14th over. 84/4 now.

Pant brings off a single-handed six off Hasan Ali over square leg and then another as he reads a slower one early straight down the ground. Excellent stuff as India move to 80/3 in 12th over. An absorbing contest going on here in front of a 70% capacity crowd.

Good over by pacer Harif Rauf who gave away only 6 runs, restricting the Indian batsmen to take singles and preventing any big hitting.

Pakistan have done well so far in restricting India to 60/3 after 10 overs. But the dangerous Kohli is still there. Pakistan will have to weave their magic to get him out. It is time to bring in pacer Haris Rauf...

India 60/3 at halfway mark as both Kohli and Pant are playing some sensible cricket at this point. However, anything less than 150-160 will be below par as there will be the dew factor when Pakistan chase later.

Rishabh Pant tries to attack Shadab Khan but survives a confident appeal in front of the wicket while trying to reverse sweep. India 52/3 after 9 overs and it looks like it might be a low-scoring game.

Second bowling change. Vice Captain Shaddab, right-handed spinner comes in to bowl replacing Afridi who completes his brilliant three-over spell. He conceded only seven runs in his first over. Pakistani bowlers have not so far allowed Indian batsmen to swing their arms. 39/3 in 7 overs.

A poor powerplay performance by Indian batsmen as they finish at 36/3. Rishabh Pant has joined Kohli and he has to play against his grain today.

Good performance by the Pakistani bowlers, especially Shaheen Afridi, so far. They have restricted India to only to 30 runs from 5 overs.

Imad Waseem, the left arm Pakistan spinner, is keeping it simple and bowling around the wicket to India's right handed batsmen making it difficult for them to hit big. He conceded 10 runs in two overs. Not bad at all considering Kohli is on the pitch.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, the two experienced Indian openers, singed by the pace of left-arm Shaheen Afridi. At 8/2 in the third over, skipper Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav has quite a task to rebuild now. India 14/2 after 3 overs.

Rohit Sharma is out first ball and Shaheen Afridi has his man! Afridi lives up to this reputation. Since his T20 debut in February 2018, he has taken a wicket in the first over 20 times in 61 innings (and once he took two in the first over, so 21 wickets in first overs altogether. Electrifying start.

There are a few interesting choices in both the line-ups. Pakistan have retained both their senior allrounders Shoaib Malik and Mohammed Hafeez for the big game while India have preferred their mystery bowler Varun Chakravarthy - as he is still new in international cricket and there is a x-factor about him.

Dubai: The Dubai International Stadium is expected to be full with 70% capacity when former champions India and Pakistan play each other in an all-important group game of the ICC T20 World Cup game this evening. Both skippers Virat Kohli and Babar Azam will strive to see their teams get off to a winning start to give their campaign the right momentum.

The UAE has, historically, been a witness to some classic contests by these two teams ever since international cricket came here via the CBFS series in Sharjah. The last time the two played in Dubai were in the 2018 Asia Cup.
