Partnership of 174 between Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma marks highest opening stand at World Cup for India
* Ireland’s 259 is the second highest total by an Associate side against India after the 265/5 by Kenya at Gwalior in May 1998.
* This is the first time in their ODI history that India have managed to dismiss their opponents five times in a row. Their previous best was four, which they achieved in 1983, 1985, 1999, 2006 (twice) and in 2014.
* By claiming three wickets, Mohammad Shami has taken his tally of wickets to 82 in 44 matches. Only Pakistan’s Saqlain Mushtaq and Kiwi Shane Bond had claimed more wickets (84) after their 44th ODI game.
* Interestingly, Umesh Yadav is now the leading fielder in the World Cup 2015 with most catches — seven!
* New Zealand and India are the only two teams so far in this World Cup not to concede a 300-plus total.
* Rohit Sharma became the 14th Indian batsman to aggregate 4,000 ODI runs. Playing his 132nd match and 126th innings, he now has 4,033 runs.
* The opening stand of 174 between Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan was India’s highest in all World Cups, bettering the 163 by Ajay Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar against Kenya at Cuttack in 1996 World Cup.
* Dhawan recorded his 8th ODI century and his second in World Cups.
* Dhawan reached his eighth century in his 57th innings. Only Hashim Amla (43) needed fewer innings than Dhawan to get to that milestone in ODIs.
* This was India’s second biggest ODI win by balls (79) to spare while chasing a target of 250-plus.
* This is India’s ninth successive victory in the World Cup since losing to South Africa at Nagpur on March 12, 2011.
* This also means that M.S. Dhoni has won nine World Cup matches in a row, thus going past the previous record of eight successive World Cup matches won by Sourav Ganguly in 2003.
