Abu Dhabi: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation (UAEJJF) has announced a highest cash prize of Dh4 million to celebrate the 10th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, starting on April 16.

As a part of the celebration of the 10th year of the event, the championship will begin with the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival from April 16-21, which will is solely dedicated to Juniors, Teens 10-17 years, People of Determination of various categories, Adult White-belts and Masters of all belt categories.

The Abu Dhabi World Youth Jiu-Jitsu Championship will be held on April 22-23, while the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship will take place from April 24-27, followed by the final round of Black and Brown belts on April 28, ending the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship.

The Federation also announced an unprecedented participation of local, regional and international players. Hence, over the course of 13 days, the Championship will be bringing together the most famous names in Jiu-Jitsu at the Mubadala Arena, Zayed Sports City.

This year’s championship will witness the participation of players in the Para-Jiu-Jitsu category during the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival. This is an indication of the interest of the UAE and the UAEJJF towards the disabled athletes and players by providing opportunities for them to compete for international titles.

King of the Mat

This year’s Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship will witness a new and strong addition to the competition, the “King of the Mat” competition at the Mubadala Arena on the last day of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championship. Winners of the last nine editions along with this year’s winner will face each other to compete for the title.

According to UAEJJF, the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship Award will be announced on April 29. The Federation will celebrate the best Jiu-Jitsu talents and entities that go to extra lengths in supporting the sport at a special ceremony honouring them for the 2017-2018 season.

During the conference, UAEJJF officials revealed that the total value of cash prizes is estimated at more than Dh4 million, part of which will be distributed among the winners as follows: Adult male and Black belt holders: First, Second and Third prize winners will be awarded $15,000, 8,000 and 5,000 respectively.

First-place winner will receive a prize of $10,000. Second-place winner will receive $5,000 and third-place winner will receive $3,000. The Federation has also added to the Championship new prizes for the top three winners in the Youth and Master categories.

This in turn reflects our continuous efforts to promote the leadership of the UAE by providing a supporting and stimulating environment for sports excellence,” said UAEJJF Board member and CEO, Fahad Ali Al Shamsi.
