The Englishman rolled it in to spark wild celebrations. His family ran onto the 18th green to congratulate him on his victory after the final round of the 122nd US Open Championship.

Fitzpatrick (right) was hugged by Rory McIlroy, of Northern Ireland. The 27-year-old became just the third Englishman in 52 years to win the sport's second oldest major.

Fitzpatrick kisses the trophy. "It's what you grow up dreaming of winning and I've worked so hard for such a long time. I had the big monkey on my back of not winning over here, it's all everybody talked about and to do it in a major, there's nothing better," he said.
