Bike enthusiasts worldwide flock to the small village of Knutsford to participate in 'The Great Race'.

Solo and team cyclists ride classic bicycles, called penny farthing, dating from the middle of the 19th Century.

The race is a unique event last held in 2010 and is usually held every ten years.

Riders race in a mix of modern cycling gear and Victorian-era costumes.

The penny farthing bicycle takes its name from its resemblance to two pre-decimal British coins - the penny and the much smaller farthing.

James Starley invented the iconic bicycle in 1871.
