Weekend watchlist: 10 TV shows and movies to check out

‘Avatar’ (UAE cinemas): Here’s your chance to revisit the highest-grossing movie ever, as it releases in cinemas again after its 2009 release. It’s been remastered to make it even better than before. The story follows paraplegic Marine Jake Sully who has a mission on the planetary body Pandora, which is inhabited by the Na’vi. The natives of Pandora accept Jake as one of them and then he must choose between his mission and his new life.

‘Don’t Worry Darling’ (UAE cinemas): You must have heard all the drama surrounding this Olivia Wilde-directed movie. Well, now it’s time to give it a watch. It’s set in the 1950s, and stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles as a married could Alice and Jack. They live in utopian experimental community along with other families, whose husbands all work for a top-secret company. However, Alice soon realised that her beautiful life isn’t so perfect after all.

‘House of Darkness’ (UAE cinemas): Justin Long and Kate Bosworth star in this thriller about a man who gets taken home by a woman he meets at a bar. They arrive at her massive estate for a mysterious date. However, he doesn’t realise that her intentions aren’t what he thinks they are.

‘Chup: Revenge of the Artist’ (UAE cinemas): Dulquer Salmaan stars as a florist who lives in Mumbai, all while a serial killer targeting film critics is running rampant. Sunny Deol stars as Arvind Mathur, Head of Crime Branch Mumbai, who has to solve this case and trap the murderer.

‘Hospital Playlist’ (Netflix): This light-hearted Korean drama features lots of laughs but prepare to shed some tears too. It’s about five friends who’ve been together since undergrad school and now work as doctors in the same hospital. They share a love for music and have a similar drive to help others. Follow their stories over two seasons as they experience love, heartbreak and personal struggles.

‘Andor’ (Disney+): The newest series in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise is set five years before the events of ‘Rogue One’ and follows the story of the Rebel spy Cassian Andor and takes audiences on a journey through his formative years.

‘The Kardashians’ (Disney+): The second season of the hit series is out and goes behind the scenes of the lives of Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall and Kylie. Explore their stories of love and life, and find out how they run their billion-dollar businesses while juggling family issues.

‘Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ (Netflix): Evan Peters stars as the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in this 10-part fictionalised biographical crime drama. The show is told from the perspective of the victims of Dahmer, who was known for murdering 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

‘Goodnight Mommy’ (Amazon Prime Video): Naomi Watts stars in the remake of the 2015 Austrian psychological horror of the same name that is sure to creep you out. Twin brothers arrive at their mother’s home and discover that her face is covered in bandages. Soon, they realise that the woman isn’t their mother at all.

‘Bad Sisters’ (Apple TV+): This Irish dark comedy follows the tight-knit Garvey sisters whose parents have both died. The women have promised to always look out for each other because of being orphaned. When one of the women’s husband dies, his life insurers start investigating the circumstances around it.
