Weekend watchlist: 10 TV shows and movies to check out

‘House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths’ (Netflix): This goosebumps-causing documentary deep dives into a case of 11 deaths that shocked India in 2018. What would entice 11 members of the same family to commit suicide? One notebook holds the answers.

‘Man on Fire’ (Netflix): When an ex-CIA officer (Denzel Washington) takes on the role of bodyguard to a young girl and she’s kidnapped, he’ll stop at nothing to get her home safe.

‘Good Omens’ (Amazon Prime Video): This take on Terry Pratchett’s book of the same name sees a fussy angel and a demon unite to try and stop Armageddon. Prepare for the weird and wonderful.

‘Mercy Black’ (Apple TV): When a girl stabs her friend in the name of the evil spirit called Mercy Black, she’s sent to a mental institution where she learns what’s real and what’s not. Then, 15 years later, she’s sent home only to realise Mercy may have been real all along.

‘The Empty Man’ (Apple TV): A group of teens summon the ‘Empty Man’ as a joke. But then, one by one they start dying. The movie also traces the origins of this supernatural entity hell-bent on killing people.

‘Halloween Kills’ (UAE cinemas): Get yourself prepared for the spookiest time of the year as the saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode continues. In the new movie, killer Michael Myers escapes from Laurie Strode’s trap to continue his bloodbath.

‘Ron’s Gone Wrong’ (UAE cinemas): This adorable tale is about an awkward kid Barney and his new talking robot Ron, which is supposed to be his ‘Best Friend out of the Box’. However, Ron ends up malfunctioning to hilarious effect.

‘Hightown’ (Starzplay): The second season of this gritty series just released, so it’s worth getting caught up. It’s about a drug addicted National Marine Fisheries Service agent who has to investigate crimes in her beach community of Cape Cod. She butts heads with Sergeant Ray Abruzzo, as they both battle demons.

‘Diana: The Musical’ (Netflix): Her life was lived in the public eye, and she was known as the people’s princess. But is there more to know about Princess Diana? This new musical brings audiences face-to-face with one of the 20th century’s most compelling figures.

‘The Good Place’ (Netflix): The funny show is full of amazing moments and twists. In it, Eleanor plays a self-centred and rude woman who somehow ends up going to heaven in a case of mistaken identity. She knows she has it good and will do anything to stay put in this wonderful place — including trying to become a better person.
