Why is this event even happening? You may have heard of benefit concerts like Live Aid that have raised relief funds in times of crisis in the past. Something like that is not possible today with restrictions on public gatherings. That’s where the internet and television come in. One World: Together At Home arrives at a tumultuous moment when millions of people are self-isolating worldwide to protect the world from COVID-19. The event will encourage people to stay at home and flatten the curve, while benefiting WHO through corporate sponsorship proceeds. “WHO is best positioned to lead and coordinate the global response across all 194 nation states. As of last week, WHO has shipped 2 million pieces of critical PPE and supplies to 68 countries worldwide, ensuring the poorest countries have the resources needed to tackle COVID-19,” stated Global Citizen online.
